Obituary of Raymond M. Chapman

Raymond Michael Chapman, age 71, late of Shorewood and formerly of Glenview,passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet.

Born February 13, 1947, in Chicago to Raymond and Stella (Sikora) Chapman, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1967-1969.  He worked for 25 years for Bell & Howell repairing microfiche and other office machines.  He then worked for Ricoh repairing copiers for a short time before joining AT&T where he worked as a technician in the Skokie Central Office, and from where he retired.

Ray enjoyed working with his hands on all sorts of machines, cars, computers, electronic gadgets, and doing home repairs and renovations.  He loved being outdoors, walking in the woods, taking photographs, and, until recently, camping.  He was proud to serve as Treasurer of the Shorewood Glen Veterans’ Group and as a member of the Troy Township Gadget Gurus.

He was a trusted and devoted friend to many and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Ray was the cherished husband of Gail (Novy) Chapman; devoted step-father of Lynette (Matthew) Gilbert; loving brother of Arlene Samp; fond uncle of James (Liz) Samp and John Samp; and dear great-uncle of Eric, Kyle and Amber Samp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jean Ann Chapman.

Visitation for Raymond Chapman will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet.  Graveside Services and Interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Forest Park, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P. O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 would be appreciated.
