I was privileged to work with Gene at Stateville from 1974 to 1976 and we remained friends for all these years. He was remarkable and a true friend. As luck would have it when I moved to Mt. Sterling in 1989, Gene’s cousin Byron approached me one Sunday after Mass and told me he was Gene’s cousin and they had just had a family reunion in Streator and Gene sent his regards to me. That and Christmas cards is how we kept in touch for the past 30 years. The few times we saw each other in person was perfect and our friendship remained intact and it seemed like no time had passed at all. He was a tremendous human being and he will be missed. My condolences to Helene and his son and family. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of Christ, Rest In Peace! Amen.
