Obituary of Gene M. Venegone
Eugene M. Venegone
Age 73, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born on July 7, 1945 in Streator, IL, he was the son of the late Eugene A. and Margaret (nee Weyand) Venegone. He was a graduate of Streator High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Southern Illinois University. He later earned a Masters in Criminology from Governors State University.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 49.5 years, Helene (nee Streul) Venegone; one son, Matthew (Jennifer) Venegone; two grandchildren, Aidan and Marissa; and several cousins.
Gene, or “Mick” as he was known to his family, retired in 2002 as Assistant Warden after serving the Department of Corrections for over 30 years. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan who enjoyed grilling and channel surfing.
A Memorial Gathering for Gene M. Venegone will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial is celebrated at 10:00 a.m., at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 McDonough St., Joliet. As it was Gene’s request, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be held at a later date.
