Obituary of Dr. Shannon Ann Layne D.V.M.
Dr. Shannon Ann Layne D.V.M.
At the age of 36, Dr. Shannon Layne passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 13, 2019, following a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side. Our bright beautiful miracle girl, Shannon Ann, we hope that as you are looking down from Heaven you see how much you were adored, admired and so loved. The sheer number of people that you have touched and inspired in your short 36 years of life is a testament of the great gift from God that you have been. Never ever did we think you would have to endure many long, hard, and agonizing battles. You fought like a warrior; however, cancer won the war. There is some solace in knowing now in Jesus’ arms you are pain free with your beloved Great Dane, Shadrach, cousin Kaitlyn, and all loving family and friends who have gone before you. Heaven has gained the most compassionate veterinarian. We will continue to feed the birds in hopes of a Heavenly visit of the most beautiful bright red cardinal, you. Until we meet again in our Lord and Savior Jesus’ Kingdom we will endeavor to pursue happiness with you in our heart.
We were so proud of the road you had traveled graduating Lee County Senior High School, in Sanford, North Carolina, receiving your undergraduate degree in 2006, and your Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University, in 2010. Your time, practicing medicine at the Lewis Veterinary Clinic in Linden Pennsylvania, was cut short because of your illness. We loved the beauty and skill you possessed in singing and playing the piano and it will remain with us forever.
Shannon is survived by her loving and devoted caregiver, her mother, Barbara Ann (fiancé Robert Mengoni) Lake; one brother, Shawn (Jackie) Doorhy both of Shorewood; one sister, Colleen (Don) Fitzgerald of North Carolina; two nephews, Hudson and Weston Doorhy; and one niece, Shae Kaitlyn Doorhy. Many special friends, as well as her canine companions, Tessa and Max, also survive.
As it was Shannon’s request, a private intimate gathering of family and friends was held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home with Fr. John Phan officiating. Cremation rites were accorded following her funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society in her name would be appreciated.
