John was certainly one of the most dedicated and passionate persons at ANL. Everyone knew that John cared about keeping us safe; both in performing his duties with radiation surveys all around the APS ring and in safety meetings making sure we didn't miss any important points.
His presence will be greatly missed at the lab, both as a co-worker and a friend.
To his family, we all say Thank You for sharing him with us all these years.
I cannot remember a time when John was not the go-to Health Physics resource at the APS. He was a living encylopedia of the history of APS from the early days, and always enjoyed telling stories if you asked. Everyone knew him and everyone counted on him. John never took our trust for granted; he was a top-notch professional until his very last day with us. John, you will be deeply missed by all your friends at the APS. Rest in peace.
May your soul Rest in Peace Johnny...you will always be remembered as one of the most self-less & dedicated people I've had the pleasure of working with. May your family & friends be comforted by warm thoughts of loving & happy memories you left behind.
Deepest condolence to John’s family. I have known John for more than 20 years and have always counted on him for his support for the experiments. It is shocking to learn his passing, but his spirit lives on.
I worked with John for the last 8 years at Argonne. He was full of insight on everything I did with his group. He will be missed greatly.
John was one of the most dedicated people at his job at the lab.
He was always there when you needed him.
He was a friend to many and will always be remembered and missed.
I had the pleasure of working with and learning from John for over 20 years. His dedication to the APS and ANL was incredible. He helped many experiments to completion over the years with his steady guidance. Your APS family will miss you John. My deepest condolences to John's family. John will always be in our hearts and minds.

Mike
John is a light for me - smilingly urging me to go a little farther, to be more dedicated than I can be on my own. We shared lunches, wonderful celebrations of family accomplishments and joys, and a love of curious old instruments and artifacts. I hope the multitude of hearts in which he lives on give some comfort and support for his family as they cross their dry and bitter grieflands.
John was always smiling and happy. HIs knowledge was endless. He never hesitated to help. He brought light wherever he went. John will be greatly missed.
John's presence is so important and so strong, that I feel very close to him even though I never actually met him. He was able to impart knowledge, confidence, understanding and of course humor through our phone calls and virtual meetings. I know what a loss this is to both of his families, i.e. his immediate family and his Argonne family. It is not an exaggeration to say that the world will feel this loss - his effects are that far reaching. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
