Obituary of Joni D. Hilger
Age 66, of Shorewood, IL passed from this life tragically, Thursday, June 4, 2020, due to injuries sustained from being struck by a motor vehicle. She was born July 13, 1953, to the late LaVerne and William McKenna in Evergreen Park, IL where she was raised and educated.
Joni is the beloved wife of 43 years of Thomas Hilger; loving mother of Steve (Laura) Hilger and Trisha (Mike) Comiskey; caring and devoted grandmother of Ryleigh, Blake and Kayden Hilger, Caleb and Braxton Comiskey; dear sister of Dianne (Tom) Godlewski, Donna (the late Larry) Moses, Don McKenna and Jeanette (James) Baker; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Joni will be remembered fondly as a very giving person. Joni spent many hours donating her time at the Timbers of Shorewood. She brought smiles to the residents’ faces through her many games of Bingo on Saturday nights. She had so much energy and knew how to keep the residents laughing, smiling, and entertained at the Timbers’ events. She never sat still for long and was always looking for her next opportunity to help out. Last summer she began donating her time to the Shorewood-Troy Public Library. She was an avid walker and was loved and known by so many. Her energy and love of life was contagious!
Although Joni loved many things, nothing brought more joy to her life than watching her five grandchildren. She dedicated the last six years of her life to watching them daily, playing with them, and walking them to school. Her grandchildren will miss her tremendously but will never forget her.
Due to current conditions, a celebration of Joni’s life will be announced at a later date. Many have asked how they can help Tom and his family in this difficult time. Joni’s friends and family set up a GoFundMe page to help them with planning her arrangements and dealing with the aftermath of this tragic event. Any donation, large or small, would be extremely appreciated by Joni’s family in this time of need. https://www.gofundme.com/f/joni-hilger-memorial
