My sister Mary was the glue that held our family together. She wrote excellent letters and sent birthday cards regularly, often including a letter inside the card. When The cards stopped, I knew that Mary was having difficulties.
She was tickled that she had the same name as the President of Ireland. She and her husband John came to visit me in Charlottesville, Virginia when the President of Ireland was also visiting. Our cousins in Ireland enjoyed telling their friends that they received a letter from Mary MacAleese, letting them think for a while that it was from the President.
She will be missed.
