Mark Steffensmeier
Mark Steffensmeier, age 80 of Plainfield, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 2, 1940, in St. Paul, IA. He was a long time South Side of Chicago resident before relocating to Plainfield in 1999. Mark retired from the Belt Railway in 2002 and worked 35 years at Santa Fe Railway. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as an MP and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Houghton, IA.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Pat Steffensmeier (nee Klecha); three daughters: Nanette Steffensmeier of Rockford, Paula Steffensmeier of Shorewood, and Laura Schubert of Austin, TX; sister: Ann (late Dusty) Rhoades, brother: Charlie (Jane) Steffensmeier; grandchildren: Tricia Meadows, Daniel Meadows, Thomas (Miranda) Steffensmeier, Jimmy Meadows; great-grandchild: Kaison Balaja; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister and brothers-in-law: Margaret (Harlow) Lockwood, Paul Klecha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim (Carolyn) Steffensmeier.
He will be dearly remembered for his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor.
Visitation for Mark Steffensmeier will be Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet from 3-7 p.m. A maximum of 10 guests will be allowed at one time, face masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Funeral services Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 N. Brookforest Dr., Shorewood, IL 60404 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL.
