I first met Dave when I taught at Washington JHS in 1975. I got to know him better years later when Helen and I shared an office at JFK 25 years ago. He was a man to be admired! From his many coaching successes to his devotion to his family and church, Dave always gave his all. He has left an imprint on many hearts and will live on through the many lives he touched. Hugs to Helen and family.

It’s with a heavy heart to hear of coach, old neighbor, mentor, & friend, my sympathy to the Wallace family. Though I haven’t seen Dave in recent years, I think of him and tell stories of him often. I’ll never forget all the advise he gave me over the years from basketball to life skills. He truly touched my life in a positive way. I send my prayers & thoughts, as I’m in Florida & won’t be able to visit.

Wallace Family,
Please accept my sincerest sympathies on the passing of Coach Wallace. When I think of him I smile and remember the times we spent together at JT Central on the basketball court. Most of all I remember the life lessons he taught me about hard work and what it takes to meet your goals. Although I haven’t seen him in some time, know that I have thought of him often over the years. His legacy will live forever with all the people he has had a positive impact on. I know because I am one of them.
Sincerely,
Ken Simonich

Sincerest condolences to all of the Wallace family from both Cindy and me. Cindy first met Dave when she was a first-year teacher at Washington Jr. High, and I had the honor of working with Dave as my assistant basketball coach at Joliet Central for ten years. Dave was an integral part of all the basketball success we had. Successful coaching requires countless hours of effort and commitment, and Dave was always willing to do everything within his power to help us succeed. After all of our time together, I considered him to be one of my closest friends and confidantes as we shared two of our greatest passions...basketball and music! I hope the family will find comfort in many fond memories and realize how many, many lives he touched in a positive way!

I miss that voice of Dave’s already. Just the sound of his voice could always make me smile.
I was fortunate to spend years with Dave (and others) during his years as the assistant varsity basketball coach at JT Central. He always made me feel that I was a part of the program. I learned much about the game from him, but he always wanted my perspective after games. I had to admire the relationship he had with players. He had that sense of how to talk to his players. He could give them direction, and because of his respectful manner, they followed through for him. He was just good for kids. All that said about Dave as a professional, he absolutely loved his family. There was always a proud look in his eyes whenever he talked about his family.
