Obituary of David S. Wallace

Age 71, of Channahon, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021.  He was born in Chicago, the son of the late Warren and Mary (Ward) Wallace, he was a longtime area resident.  Dave was a lifelong educator and basketball coach in the Joliet community.  He retired from District 86 following 38 years of teaching.  Dave taught most of the teenagers in the area how to drive during his 25 years as a Driver’s Education instructor.  Many people also knew him as “Coach”, one of the best!  He coached the Washington Junior High boys’ basketball team to an undefeated state championship in 1978.  He went on the coach the boys’ varsity basketball team at Joliet Central High School.  Dave, a longstanding member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church had the distinct honor of being the only male voice in the church choir.  His whole world was his family.  He will be dearly missed, and his love and memory will live on with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Helen (Rembos) Wallace; daughter,  Kristen (Tom) Steel; son, Bryan (Jennifer) Wallace; daughter, Niki (Andres) Arias; his seven grandchildren, that were the absolute loves of his life; Sophia, Ella, Jake, Sydney, Evan, Olivia, and Charlotte; his sister, Janice (Jerry) Stricker; brother-in-law, Woody Rea; many loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents and his sister, Chris Rea.

Visitation for David S. Wallace will be Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet from 4-6 p.m. with Trisagion Services at 5 p.m.  Maximum capacity is 10 guests at one time, facemasks are required and social distancing will be observed.  Funeral services and interment at Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago will be held privately by the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N.
