Frances Marinez

Frances Marinez, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at RML Specialty Hospital in Chicago. Frances was born in Joliet on October 27, 1937, the daughter of the late John and Nifa Terry (nee Miramontez) Serrato.
Frances enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and bowling. She was an educator, having served Joliet Grade School District 86 for 26 years, including instructing the summer Migrant Program. A great source of pride for Frances was running into former students, meeting their families, and championing their successes.
Frances is survived by her children, Linda (Sal) Rangel, Mary L. (Brian) Hooker, Santiago "Jimmy" Marinez, and Ray Marinez; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Anita (late Pete) Medina, Nifa (Robert) Guzman, and Lucy (Rick) Butler; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago (1989); daughter, Esther (Art) Martinez; son, Freddy Marinez; great-granddaughter, Destiny Perez; great-grandson, Salvador Pena; sister, Olga Compean; Alma Stegall; and brother, John Serrato, Jr.
A Memorial Mass for Frances Marinez will be held privately by the family at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and inurnment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, masses in her name would be appreciated.
