Diane, I just saw Rick’s notice in the Celtic memorials and it made me so sad. Though I haven’t seen you and Rick since high school graduation, it breaks my heart to know that you lost your high school sweetheart too soon. You have a beautiful family. God bless you!

I'm so sorry to hear for Richard's passing. He was one that no matter how hard of a day he was having, he always tried to make light of it. He had a joke or a friendly smile to share.... he always brightened my day. Thank you for sharing him with me and he was very blessed to have you all by his side cheering him on daily. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

Monday, April 19, 2021
I just wanted to say how sorry I am for Mr. Barank’s passing. I am going to miss hearing him tell stories of better times, but I am thankful for the memories. The Old Timer’s games, the bear like grunt with every swing(which I imitated through most of my playing days), the reminiscing with my dad about Providence... He was a living legend to the kids that knew him, and his legend will live on forever. The Baranak family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

My sorrow goes out to Diane & kids & to Chuck & Sandy and everyone that was close to him. He & I were best friends years ago & we had some great times. Nobody twice his age could hit a ball farther then Rick could in Desmonds Park on the old East Side. He was a Natural. I feel bad we never kept in touch but sometimes friends grow apart and that 's life. I hope God has a special place for him.....Right behind Home Plate.

The entire Narducci family wishes to extend our condolences to the Baranak family. Plenty of great memories from the old east side neighborhood and St. Cyril’s. Rick was undoubtedly one of the best ball players that ever came out of Joliet. Always admired his abilities. May he Rest In Peace.

I didn't know Rick very well at Providence, he was a freshman my senior year. But I had heard what a great catcher he was and saw him play at Lewis. I got to know him later on when we played softball on teams put together by Frank Forsythe. He had a droll sense of humor, which I always enjoy. The day his son was getting his driver's license there was a problem with the car he'd come in, so I let him use my car instead. Rick never forgot to say thanks for helping put his son. It was a pleasure having him in my life, if only for a brief time. God rest his soul.

Diane,
Debbie and I have you, your entire family and Rick in our prayers. It was a honor to play with Rick on the 1975 and 1976 National Championship Teams at Lewis University. You and Debbie becoming great friends just made things that much better. Rick was incredibly talented as a player however, his leadership skills were so evident at all levels. Rick had an influence on everyone he touched. His very unique ability to lead by example, words and body language was kind and always with good intent. The, "Bear" was a man among boys in so many great ways and he truly was a gift all of us.

I had the pleasure of playing with "Bear" on the 1974 Lewis "College" National Championship Team! Bear was one of the best catchers I have ever played with or even saw on the field. More importantly, he was a better man than baseball player. You could always count on Bear to speak the truth. He was a giant on our team that year and a true leader. In recent years, my son was out golfing at a local course and was teamed up with two other guys to help fill out a foursome. In the course of the round, my son learns that one of the guys he is playing with is the Bear. When he told me the story, he described Bear as the biggest, nicest "big guy" he had ever met. You made a great impression on my son Bear in just a couple of hours that day, but that didn't surprise me in the least. Rest in piece my friend, God Bless, Bob.

A gentle kind giant of a man. Being by him made everyone a little happier. Never forget our comedy routine in Georgia during our first college trip . We did a Johnny Carson Art Fern routine. It was perfect with bear wearing a skirt and playing the Tea Time Lady role. Love
