Richard J. Baranak
“Bear”
Age 67 of Shorewood, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at his home following a brief illness with his family and friends by his side. He was born in Joliet, the son of the late John Jr., and Marjal (Sandeen) Baranak, and was a lifelong resident. Rick graduated from Providence High School with the class of 1972. He attended Lewis University where he was instrumental in baseball. He was an All American Catcher and part of the NAIA National Championships of 1974, 1975, and 1976. He was inducted in both Providence and Lewis University Hall of Fame. He retired from the Carpenters Union Local #174 in 2010. Rick was a member of the Old Timer’s Baseball Association.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane (Fox) Baranak; 3 children, Eric (Lynn) Baranak, Kelly (Michael) Benefield anf Jim Baranak, all of Shorewood; 5 grandchildren, Caitlynn and Austin Baranak, Luke and Joey Benefield, Tyler Baranak; his brother, John Charles (Sandy) Baranak of Joliet; brothers-in-law, Pat (Ann) Fox of Channahon and Michael (Cathy) Russ of Galena; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded by his parents and his in-laws, James and Mary Fox.

Visitation for Richard J. Baranak will be Sunday, April 18, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. Joliet, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Monday, April 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Facemasks are required and social distancing will be observed. The family has requested to live stream the funeral service of their loved one.
