Obituary of Brunilda Velez

Brunilda Valez, of Plainfield, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center.  She was born in Puerto Rico and immigrated to New York.  Brunilda was raised in Chicago and has been a resident of Plainfield for the past 16 years.  She took care of many children, providing daycare services for years.  Brunilda loved her family and was a foster mother to many.

Brunilda is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Angel Velez Sr. of Plainfield; four children, Angel (Marie) Velez, Jr. of Joliet, Antonio Velez of Plainfield, Maribel (Henry) Torres of Plainfield, and Julian Velez of Elmwood Park; five grandchildren, Ashley (John) Rejon, Jaidyn Velez, Elias Torres, Jayceon Velez, and Ethan Torres; and her great-granddaughter, Aryah Rejon.  Numerous siblings and many nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Paula (Cuba) Birriel; and two brothers.

A Memorial Gathering for Brunilda Velez will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.
