Richard Barker Thompson, Jr.
Richard Barker Thompson, Jr., age 60, passed away from cancer at his home in Joliet, on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family. Richard was born on May 6, 1961, the son of Richard and Louise (nee Lachcik) Thompson in Chicago, IL. He grew up in Chicago, moved to Bolingbrook before high school, and was a 1979 graduate of Bolingbrook High School. Richard was the Owner/Operator of Midwest EDM Specialties.
Richard will be remembered by his generosity, kindness, thoughtfulness, and big personality. He lent a helping hand and advice to everyone. When his children were growing up, he took them out to museums, auto shows, every carnival around town, and many vacations. He loved to talk about his daughters to anyone who asked, they were his world.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Joan T. (nee Cushing) Thompson; two daughters, Amy Thompson of Peoria, and Jennifer Thompson of Joliet; his parents; one sister, Dorene (Gregory) Deatrick of Bolingbrook; one brother, Andrew (Tere) Thompson of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his grandparents.
A Memorial Gathering for Richard Barker Thompson, Jr. will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will take place privately by the family at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
