Age 51. Suddenly, Thursday, October 28, 2010 at his late residence, while stationed in Milwaukee, WI. Born in Chicago, he was a long time Bolingbrook resident and a Plainfield resident for the past 15 years.
Gerald was serving active duty with the United States Coast Guard Investigative Services CGIS, following September 11, 2001. Gerald was called to active service and took a leave of absence from the Crest Hill Police Department where he served as a patrol officer, when he was called to service by his Country. Gerald was an expert marksman. His greatest loves in life were his family, friends and service to his Country.
Preceded in death by his father, George Griner; and his uncle, Thomas Schratzmeier.
Survived by his loving wife, Maria Griner; one son, Andrew; two daughters, Amanda (fiancé Harry Zander), and Abigail Griner all of Plainfield; his mother, Carol Griner of Flanigan, IL; one brother, Steve (Dawn) Griner of Glendale Heights; two sisters, Cindy (Grant) Koeller of Flanigan, and Caryn (Scott) Curtain of Carol Stream; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services for Gerald A. Griner will be Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the United States Coast Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Coast Guard Foundation, 394 Taugwonic Rd. Stonington, Ct. 06378, would be appreciated. Visitation Tuesday 2-9 p.m. at:
