Obituary of Jerry Hannon

Jerome J. “Jerry” Hannon

Age 84, of Minooka, IL passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL.  He was born March 23, 1937 to the late Elsie (nee Meyer) and Marshall Hannon in Chicago, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his children, Jerome Jr. (Pam), Lisa (Miguel), Jennifer Dodd (Brian), Kevin and Philip; siblings, Jeanne Richine and Thomas Hannon; father-in-law, Joseph (Sandy), sister-in-law, Judy (Doug) Curtis; brother-in-law, Fred (Carole); grandchildren, Melissa (Sean) Sevitski, Jason and Rachel;  two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Jacob; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, four-legged animals and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Patrick; and siblings, Marshall, Robert, Joan, and Donna; and his sister-in-law, Rosemary.

A U.S. Marine Corp Veteran, Jerry, was born in the Southside of Chicago, moving to the Minooka area in 1977. He was a man of many occupations including the owner of Magic Muffler in Channahon, IL., his favorite occupation though was a stay-at-home dad.

As a cook in the Marine Corps, Jerry was used to cooking for a crowd. Not only cooking for his children every day a hearty diet of mac and cheese and hot dogs but for all neighborhood kids. He loved the neighborhood kids as if they were his own making sure they were always fed and had a ride home.

Jerry was always found working on the love of his life, the pool. His kids kept him busy with it with opening, closing, and maintaining the pool and needing to constantly replace the screens on the porch after his kids and their friends would break them daily with their pool games.

His favorite part of the day was watching his children participate in after-school extracurriculars. Starting as young as t-ball and going all the way through his sons’ time on the Minooka Varsity Volleyball team, never missing a game. He also went to all their marching band events.

He will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him and his love for all people who came into his life.
