Obituary of Randall James Pollock

RANDALL JAMES POLLOCK 1948-2021

Of Berwyn, PA, passed peacefully in his sleep, with his fiancée and his family at his bedside after a private battle with Multiple Myeloma.  Randall, known as Randy, was born on April 1, 1948 to the late Alvin and Rosalyn Pollock of Joliet, IL.  Randy grew up in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Central and Joliet West High School.  He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and also attended the University of California at Berkeley for Biomedical Engineering graduate studies.  He served his country for two years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an economic research associate working on statistics where he later earned his Masters of Business Administration degree. 

After graduation, Randy worked as a sales engineer and in venture capital, bonds and fixed income investments for Texas Instruments, Exxon, RCA and on Wall Street for EF Hutton, Sherson Lehman Brothers and Smith Barney, and as a research analyst for Moodys.

Subsequently, Randy was an early hire of Jack Bogle for The Vanguard Group, where he received accolades including Bond Analyst of the Year and he retired as Principal, Fixed Income Group after 23 years. Randy was also involved in serving the investment community in connection with the Fixed Income Analysts Society, Inc. 

Randy was a true Renaissance man: he was an accomplished musician, avid photographer and filmmaker.  His short film “Tango Into The Night” was accepted as an entry in the business markets of the Cannes and Venice film festivals.  He was an avid skier, tennis and squash player and longtime member of The Germantown Cricket Club and The Racquet Club of Philadelphia.  In retirement, he pursued acting and was cast as an extra cast member in major popular television and film projects including Succession, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Mr. Robot and The Post.

Randy is survived by his fiancée, Anne M. Zaneski of Berwyn, PA, his brother Kenneth (Krisanne) Pollock of Joliet, IL, sisters Audrey (John) Marks of Los Angeles, CA, Dayle Pollock of Morton Grove, IL, and nieces Sarah (Russell) Shelley, Segal Boaz, nephew David Corwin, and grand-nephew Barnaby Shelley, of CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Randy's name to Abramson Cancer Center - Multiple Myeloma Research at The University of Pennsylvania.

A private burial service for family and friends was held on December 12, 2021 through Joliet Jewish Congregation in Joliet, IL, with a memorial service to be held in the spring of 2022 in New York, NY.

A private burial service for Randall James Pollock is planned for family and friends on Sunday, December 12, 2021 through the Joliet Jewish Congregation with a Memorial Service to be held in the spring of 2022 in New York, NY.
