Obituary of JoAyne S. Karpel

JoAyne Olive Smeets Karpel was called home by her Savior at the age of 91, at her home in Plainfield, IL on Friday, December 17, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family.  JoAyne was born on December 1, 1930, the daughter of the late John Frederick and Junette Olive (nee Secrest) Smeets.  Born in Aurora, IL, she was raised in Joliet, IL during the Great Depression and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School class of 1948.  She earned her B.A. in Management in 1982 and earned an MBA from Columbia Pacific University.  JoAyne was a real estate broker, worked at the Joliet Federal Savings and Loan, Folger Adam Co., and AmSurg.  JoAyne was a woman of strong Christian faith and dearly loved her family. JoAyne was loving, generous, and hardworking and enjoyed being outside taking care of her home,  landscaping, playing cards, and, most of all,  spending time with her family in IL. and TN.

JoAyne is survived by her daughter, Jody (William Bryan) Bell of TN; grandchildren: Bonnie (Nick) Eldred, Richard (Ashley) Karpel, Michael (Cha) Karpel, Joshua Karpel of IL; William Joseph (Jenny) Bell, Johnathan C. (Valerie) Bell, Julianna (Thomas McGahey) Bell-McGahey, and Jennifer (Aric) Catlett of TN; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Jay D. (Sylvia) Smeets of IL; nieces, Peggy Hall and Nancy Smeets of CA; and several cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard John Karpel; and her brother, John F. Smeets, Jr.
