Obituary of Leonard C. Cox, Jr.
Leonard C. “Len” Cox, Jr., age 81, of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at home.
Born May 29, 1941 in Joliet, he was the son of Leonard C. and Eloise G. (Green) Cox, and was a 1960 graduate of Lockport Township High School.
Len worked for E. K. Motors in Crest Hill for six and one-half years before starting his own business, Len Cox & Sons Excavating, over 53 years ago with his four sons. He was also a retired member of Operating Engineers Local #150.
An avid golfer, he enjoyed being a member of the Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City, CA.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret M. “Peggy” (Cunico) Cox; four devoted sons, John Cox of Joliet, Joseph (Suzanne) Cox of Lockport, Jeffrey (Barbara) Cox of Joliet, and Jason (Amy) Cox of Joliet; his adoring grandchildren, Cassandra, Dan, Corey, Megan, Jordan, Devin, Ava, Brianne, Madison, Bobbie, Blake, Nolan, Colin and Ryan; and his dear great-grandchildren, Griffin, Laila, Grace, Ashton, Harper and Hudson. He is also survived by an aunt, Marilyn Greene; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Murphy and Michelle Cox; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bob Cox; two sisters, Edie (Dennis) Kobe and Sharon (Jim) Waxweiler; his wife’s parents, Tony and Margarert Cunico; two brothers-in-law, John Cunico and Thomas Murphy; and two nephews, Mike and Tim Murphy.
Visitation for Len Cox will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum, Romeoville.
