Sincere condolences to family and friends. My late husband, Don, worked with Gretchen at DCFS, and we both had several occasions to interact with her beyond the work environment. Gretchen was proficient in her job, as well as a caring individual. May wonderful memories of Gretchen help fill the holes in your hearts, and may God comfort you as you grieve.

There is a visceral reaction for me, to each loss of a member of the West High Blackhawks class of 1957. We were once young and thought time would never end. Each marker kept us on tiptoe, anxiously awaiting the next "BIG." There was so much to look forward to and we shared fun years and classes and games. Coming were all those adulting things and the reunions...until there were fewer and fewer of us. Gretchen, you one of those who shared, gently, our lives. Thank you for your giving heart and love for people, especially little people, and of course the "critters." Wait for us. See you soon.

I will miss Gretchen so much. I started donating to the ASPCA because of her and I always will. I helped her move boxes one time and I wouldn’t do that for anyone one else! Love, Logan

Gretchen was my friend for well over 40 years, I will miss her. Am so glad we were able to get together recently for a fun lunch and lots of laughs, a good memory. Myself and her 'fellow retirees' at DCFS have only good memories of her, she will be missed.

Gretchen will be so very missed. She was incredibly loved by my son Logan and he by her. I will miss hearing him talk to her on the phone in a way he never talked with anyone else. She was a very special lady and will always have a place in our hearts. We could never thank her enough for all the generous things she did for us.

In my early legal career, I met Gretchen, who was a class act for the DCFS (which could use some of her wisdom now). She always had the interest of the children at heart and was a great asset to DCFS. My heart is saddened by her passing as the world was a better place with her in it. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
