Obituary of Duane Lee Roed
Duane Lee Roed
Age 75, of Morris, IL, passed peacefully at home, with family at his side, Thursday evening August 31, 2023.
He was born September 21, 1947, in Jacksonville, FL to the late Harriet (nee Falck) and Kenneth Roed. Duane was raised in Anita, Iowa, attending local public schools there. He attended Drake University and Northwest Missouri State University. He was employed for many years at several Grundy area chemical plants as a maintenance tech, retiring from Starcon after many years of dedicated service.
He is the beloved husband of nearly 34 years to Mary (Mistro) Miller-Roed; loving and devoted Dad to Michelle Smith, Angela Solis, Jennifer (Trace) Lambert, Jared (Julia) Miller, Nicki Roed and Michael Roed; cherished grandfather of Christopher (Jessica) Lee, Zander Smith, Alyssa (Ryan) Solis-Schuetz, Mariah, Antonio, Lily and Rosalie Solis, and Zane Roed; proud great-grandpa of Jocelyn, Connor and Jameson Lee; dearest brother of Vicki (Kelly) Burk. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chris Roed (1987), and great-niece, Kennedy Aurentz (2023).
Duane, a former board member of his children's swim team, was always present for all of his kids and grandkids' activities. Whether it was Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, or organized events through church, he was always there to support, encourage, and lend a hand whenever needed. His level of patience was remarkable and very much demonstrated while he taught his kids how to drive! All kidding aside, he was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
He showed no partiality; he loved all of his family equally, but he truly enjoyed shooting with Vicki, his sister, who together, shared their love of guns, target practice, and visiting Cherokee Firearms during those fun monthly Missouri trips.
Another passion of Duane's was being a huge fan of the Cubs and Bears. He proudly "flew the W" after a Cubs win, but would look forward to the Bears opener, as it seemed playoffs and the Cubs didn't mesh these last few seasons. He would go as far as to wager with Vicki when her Chiefs were playing the Bears and that too, didn't fair out too well for Duane. Dinner was usually on him. Perhaps this season will be different for his favorite Chicago teams, with the spirit of Duane Roed immersing Wrigley and Soldier Field. In addition to his professional teams, he loved following his favorite college team from his home state, the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Duane was a big fan of auto racing, particularly Formula 1 and NASCAR. He also was a big fan of Vegas. He always was hoping he would win BIG!
Duane was a member of the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of Eagles where he always enjoyed reminiscing and catching up with friends. He will be remembered fondly for his outgoing personality and sense of humor.
All are welcome to join us in celebrating Duane's life on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W.
