Obituary of Kathleen Fitzgerald Broderick

Kathleen Fitzgerald Broderick, passed away peacefully at her home in Joliet, IL, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the age of 89 (3 days short of her 90th birthday).  She was born on October 28, 1933 in Joliet, and a lifelong area resident.  Kate was a graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School and St. Francis Academy, with the Class of 1951.  Kate retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of dedicated service and was formerly employed at Fitzgerald Furniture Store as the office manager. Kate was recognized as “Woman of the Year” by the Morris Auxiliary Club of Morris, IL. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and the Paulites, the Jugs Club (short for "Just Us Girls") and the DDD (Daring, Darling Debutantes). Her Catholic faith sustained her, she celebrated her Irish heritage, and her kindness to all is a living legacy.

 

Kate is survived by three sons, Terrence (Joellen) Broderick of Joliet, Dr. Daniel (Thomas Mnich) Broderick of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Timothy (Anna) Broderick of Joliet; four grandchildren, Maggie and Daniel Broderick, and Alexandra (Casey) Hartsell and John Broderick (Aja Van Hout, fiancée); a great-granddaughter Charlotte (Charlie) Hartsell; seven nieces, Mary Kathleen (Charles) Harrison, Mary Liz (Bill) Whitmer, Aimee (Dean) Bennett, Mary Ann (Kevin) Cronin, Meg (Nick) Honiotes, and Laura (Louis) Flori; and five nephews, Thomas (Laurie) Fitzgerald, Kevin (Stacey) Brown, Tom Ross, John (Becky) Fitzgerald, and Kevin Cummings. Numerous cousins and many special friends also survive.

 

She is preceded by her beloved husband, Joseph J. Broderick (2009); her loving daughter, Mary Margaret Broderick (1990); her parents, Frank E. and Margaret V. (nee Keough) Fitzgerald; two brothers, Bill (Marietta) Fitzgerald and Jack (Mariann) Fitzgerald; two sisters, Mary Lu (Art) Silk and Betty Jane (Bill) Brown;  in-laws Rosemary (Eugene) Cummings; Kathleen (Dave) Ross; and Tom Broderick; a niece, Jeanette (Larry) Floyd; and four nephews, David Ross, Michael Brown, Tim Fitzgerald and Jim Cummings.

 

Funeral Services for Kathleen Fitzgerald Broderick will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, from the Fred C, Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 3, 2023 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of prayers at 9:45 a.m.
