Obituary of Silas Raymond Wagnon

Silas Raymond “Ray” Wagnon, age 80, of Channahon, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Lightways Hospice. 

Ray was born July 31, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  He began his career with Stepan Chemical as a teenager, and retired as Maintenance Supervisor 36 years of service.

Ray’s universe revolved around his four beloved grandsons, and he was their dearly loved “Papa.”.  He loved attending all of their school events and baseball and football games.  He was also an avid deer hunter and looked forward to the annual hunting trip to Arkansas with the grandsons.  He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, his huge smile, and his “Hey, Buddy” greeting.

He is survived by his loving children, Dennis (Cathy) Wagnon of Joliet, and Amy (Ross) Draper of Yorkville; his grandsons, Trevor (Brooke Henderson) and Tanner (Kailey Fearday) Wagnon and Dylan and Mason Draper; his former wife, Mary Lou Wagnon; a sister-in-law, Gerry Wagnon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lucille Schaubel; and two brothers, Lamar (Becky) Wagnon and Larry Wagnon.

A Memorial Gathering for Ray will be held Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded and interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park will be private.
