Marilyn McGuire

Obituary of Marilyn A. McGuire

Marilyn A. McGuire, 95, died peacefully July 4, 2024 at her home.

Marilyn grew up in Lockport and Joliet. She graduated from Sacred Heart School and St. Francis Academy and attended the College of St. Francis. Her Franciscan teachers instilled a lifelong commitment to helping others.

Marilyn married Paul E. McGuire on November 24, 1951. They raised six children on Westshire Drive and Oneida Street. Marilyn was a helpful neighbor and a favorite of her kids’ friends.

Marilyn worked in the law office of Joseph Kirincich for 14 years before becoming associate director of development at Joliet Catholic High School. She was an active member of the Joliet Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, the St. Paul the Apostle School Board, the St. Francis Academy and Joliet Catholic High School parent organizations, and the Notre Dame Club of Joliet.

Marilyn enjoyed cheering on JCA and Notre Dame, cooking and baking for her family, electing good people to office, and Scrabble. Marilyn was smart, determined, and intolerant of “phony baloney.” She will be remembered with gratitude and deeply missed.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Pat (Lora), Peggy, Terry, Muffy, Eileen (Thom), and Marty (Deza); 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her brother Jack Mannell; her sister, Kay Corrigan; her sister-in-law, Judy McGuire; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Harold Mannell; her husband, of 29 years, Paul; and her brother, Jim Mannell.
