James Wilhelmi

Obituary of James R. Wilhelmi

James R. Wilhelmi, age 56, of Channahon, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, November 30, 2024. He was born in Joliet, IL, on May 24, 1968, to John and Mary Kathleen (nee Cavanaugh) Wilhelmi. James graduated from Joliet Central Class of 1986, where he was a proud member of the Jazz Band playing the saxophone. He was currently employed by Southern Gas, formerly Nicor Gas with over 30 years of dedicated service in the IT department.

James had a passion for antique tractors, and was a member of the Will County Threshermen’s Association. If something needed to be fixed James could do it, as there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and gave selflessly of himself to others. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Joliet.  His quick wit and humor was enjoyed by all who knew him.

James is survived by his loving wife of 16 years Teri (nee  Krieger); his mother, Mary K. “Kathy” Wilhelmi; brother, John T. (Ajla) Wilhelmi; nephew, Eric (Sarah)Wilhelmi; nieces, Layla A. Wilhelmi, and Aida Wilhelmi; his beloved aunt, Maureen Jaszczak,; his best buddies, Bowie and Isobel;  and also numerous loving cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father John R. Wilhelmi; and uncle, Kenneth Jaszczak.
